Stolen sheets of scrap metal that had a value of around £75,000 have been recovered by police from a Black Country scrapyard after a recent raid. The officers also discovered beer kegs and copper cables which may have been stolen.
The police team carried out the raid on Oldbury Metals Recycling Ltd in Parsonage Street after they were tipped off that metal that is believed to have been stolen during a break in at Midland Steel Sections in Dudley Road sometime between Saturday and Monday.
Managing director of Midland Steel Sections Alan Hawkins said it was a relief that the steel had been recovered, stating
“We are not giving up on tracing the remainder and will continue to work with police.
“If this metal had not been recovered it would have left us out of pocket.
“We are a big firm but if metal is taken from a smaller business it can have very dire consequences on its trade. That is why metal theft is such a big problem.”
A 36 year old man has been arrested in relation to the theft.
