India’s main metal container lobbying group, the Metal Container Manufactures Association, has demanded that the Indian government provide them with some form of financial incentive to further promote the use of eco-friendly packaging.
The metal packaging industry in the country is beginning to face increasing problems in regards to accumulation of credit due to inverted duty structure and supplies to merchant exporter/manufacturer exporter against Notification dated June 26th 2001.
Sanjay Bhatia, the president of the MCMA as well as the Managing Director of metal press work and metal containers firm Hindustan Tin works Ltd claims “We have urged the government to provide fiscal incentives to promote packaging which is environmental friendly, recyclable and sustainable. These incentives can be given in terms of subsidies, refund of indirect taxes, concessional duty on import of capital goods/inputs and income tax exemption.”
