Finnish Metal Industry Strike is Resolved

A metal industry strike in Finland that began last Friday and involved 37 large Finnish companies is officially over after a settlement was agreed between employers and their workers.

The Trade Union Pro and the Metalworkers’ Union announced the end of the strike at the beginning of the week, with the sides accepting a second compromise offer from National Conciliator Esa Lonka.

It’s not all good news for Finnish industry, as an agreement has yet to be reached with the Electrical Worker’s Union. However it does mean that 30,000 metal industry workers have returned to their jobs. Apparently the deal is in line with a national framework pact agreed in Finland a couple of weeks ago.

Trade Union Pro claims that the agreement sees workers gain a new two year contract that starts retroactively in the beginning of October.

Next January, workers are also to be paid a one-off bonus of 150 euros.
