The negotiations between the SEIFSA and Numsa over the pay conditions for South African metal industry workers have stalled once again, all but guaranteeing that strike action will continue for quite some time.
A recent meeting between the two parties over the weekend, which was aimed at exploring all possible options to bring the wage dispute to an end, resulted in failure.
David Carson, SEIFSA’s executive director, commented that “the differences between the two parties at this stage is substantial and it appears unlikely that an early resolution to the strike is possible”.
He stated that the employer negotiating team would report back to the main employer group, with the hope of setting up further negotiations down the line.
SEIFSA released a statement on the most recent negotiations, which can be found here.
