A steel company in Finland is to begin exporting Ferrochrome as they look to expand their capacity to produce the substance at a refinery in Tornio.

Outokumpu in Finland will spend 2011 exporting ferrochrome into the Far Eastern market and is also looking into selling the substance to a number of Japanese companies, including Nippon Steel & Sumikin Stainless Steel, Nippon Metal Industry, and so on.

The company currently produces 255,000 tonnes per annum of ferrochrome and usually sell on the portion that they don’t use themselves in the production of their own stainless steel works to other European companies.

However they are now looking to expand with a new refinery which will be able to produce 530,000 tonnes per annum of ferrochrome. Accordingly, Outokumpu has aimed to export 100,000 tonnes per annum of ferrochrome.
